Houses swallowed by tsunami burn Friday in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture (state) after Japan was struck by a strong earthquake off its northeastern coast. The Oregon Department of Transportation says there was heavy congestion on Highway 101 and they asked drivers not to head west on Highway 126 in an effort to keep traffic flowing smoothly.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reported seeing wave changes at Waianae Harbor at around 3.24 am (13.24 GMT), shortly before smaller waves were seen at Waikiki.
